                                                                                           Plagiarism
Plagiarism is a serious issue which happened all around the world. Here have two kind of plagiarisms. First is accidental plagiarism, another one is intentional plagiarism. They are having different reasons, but the result are same — deprive the right to continue studying in the school. That means whatever you do, you can not get a good ending even more worse. Students should follow the rules and be very thorough in their studies so that they can get real good grades.

Plagiarism rules in UCI

Plagiarism is a serious academic offence. Each year several cases of plagiarism are brought to the attention of the university. Depending on the severity of the offence, students found guilty of plagiarism may lose credit for the assignment in quiz, be awarded a mark of zero in the module, or face expulsion from the university.

First, what is plagiarism? The plagiarism is to steal and pass of (the ideas or words of another) as one’s own. Which means, if you look others paper during test, copy others’ homework with or without promotion. Those all are plagiarism.

Second, the UCI has a specific document that called “Incorporating Sources and Avoiding Plagiarism” which produced by Christine King. Inside of this file, they introduce a significant definition about what is plagiarism and what should you do or not to do. After that, they talk about the statements in UCI, and they called plagiarism is “intellectual theft.” Also, they mention when is not plagiarism and how to use quotes.

Finally, they haven’t referred to any punishment, but that is not mean you can plagiarism. They approximately use 15 pages to teach you how to use citations, quotes or something like that. In my opinions, UCI doesn’t write the regular rules that what will happen if you are plagiarism. They thought you can control yourself or even that won’t happen. They showed their respect and trust, there is no way to plagiarism hen you have others’ trust.

definition of  Plagiarism

According to the Webster online dictionary, to “plagiarize” means to steal and pass off (the ideas of words or another) as one’s own, to use (another’s production) without crediting the source. If simplify it, it means copy and steals other people’s work without permission. And according to the official website of UMUC, Plagiarism – the intentional or unintentional presentation of another person’s idea or product as one’s own. Plagiarism includes but is not limited to the following: copying verbatim all or part of another’s written work; using phrases, charts, figures, illustrations, or mathematical or scientific solutions without citing the source; paraphrasing ideas, conclusions or research without citing the source in the text and in reference lists; or using all or part of a literary plot, poem, film, musical score or other artistic product without attributing the work to its creator. For example, you write a passage of world’s economy, you find statistics from other companies’ website but you didn’t cite it. This is a way to show how people use plagiarism. By preventing plagiarism, you should use MLA form for every sentence that you cite.

Plagiarism in Stanford University

In today society, people start to work more on intellectual work to instead of physical work. Plagiarism means people take someone’s works or ideas to submit without marks. No matter in which college, plagiarism is never being allowed. At Stanford, all students need to follow the Honor Code. Plagiarism is one of the worst things that cannot be allowed. Thus, students will get a serious punishment. Not only in college, but also in society people who was coping others’ work also will be punished. This is a good thing for brainworkers, so we can see that whole society is respecting them. For us, we should recognize plagiarism correctly, respect every creator’s works, and push this idea for whole society.

      Plagiarism Rules Universities

I search these things on Harvard University’s website. Doing plagiarizing in the college is not a good thing, but a lot of students in the college still do it. They want to use available information in the internet to do their projects easily. They do not need to use too much energy to get information. They just copy the information from the websites instead of thinking it by themselves. Some of people really do not know they are stealing others’ ideas. It is called accidental plagiarism. However, others think their copying behavior will not be found out, so they use copy way to do projects. There are also some students drop out of school because of this. In conclusion, this is not correct.

Reflection As a Asian Student

How does a normal Chinese student understand “Plagiarism”, so nowadays many students is doing plagiarism on purpose or not. The fact is a little amount of Chinese people know that, so many of us is very innocent to be kicked off. Sometimes by accident, but I still believe that someone is doing this for purpose. I even know that students pay for others to let them write for themselves, so they can avoid being plagiarism. So I think that is very important to know that before we get into American collage, and I think it is a kind of waste, that you make your brain do nothing but instead, you use others’ work as your work.

-The plagiarism in Stanford

“For purposes of the Stanford University Honor Code. Plagiarism is defined as the use, without giving reasonable and appropriate credit to or acknowledging the author or source, of another person’s original work. Whether such work is made up of code, formulas, ideas, language, research, strategies, writing or other form(s).” ————from Stanford

This is the definition of plagiarism in Stanford. I don’t think it is good to plagiarize. You will get punished. It is also dishonesty deed.

                                                                                                               Integrity——be bold centralization

Yale University‘s rules:
Academic dishonesty is mainly divided into four categories , including cheating in the exam, easy fabrication, and academic dishonest behavior plagiarism.
Although the United States the definition and classification of the university of academic integrity problem way have distinguishing feature each. But most of them similar to the above definition and classification.
Data show that
98.3% of American universities make academic integrity policies. Related studies show 
Everyone makes mistakes, and everyone deserves to be forgiven . But if you don’t repent .you will get the punishment you deserve. The first importance thing is “to be honesty!” Cicero once said people not honest , no dignity. First teachers will make education to the students, so students can understand the honesty’s importance. Such as Copyright Infringement. If you will copy other one’s articles ,you will note the original work at the bottom of the article .
All in all, we should boldly face the challenge and focus on learning, and then we will be a good students!!
