E9 AGENDA 11/15- 11/17: Memory Lane

Mrs. Scarff will be gone from 11/15- 11/17.  These are the activities for each day.

Wednesday

In the WRITING section of your binder:

You will create a “memory map,” which is a map of a place that is significant to you.  It could be your neighborhood, your school, your house, or any place that you have spent time in.  This place must be a place where you have made many memories.  Draw a simple map of the place.  Label the important areas of the map.  Now, think of memories that relate to that place.  Write a short description of at least FIVE memories that you can think of within this place.  Your map does not need to be fancy– the drawing is not as important as the memories that you write.  Each memory should me one to two sentences.  Add color and other little details (such as animals, trees, people, or objects) to make your map fun to look at.

Thursday

In the WRITING section of your binder:

You will create a second memory map using your hands.  Trace on of your hands on a piece of paper.  Now, think of all the special objects that you have touched, caressed, or held.  Create a memory map of sorts, filling your hand with memories of these hand-related memories that are meaningful to you.  Add color and other details to make your drawing more interesting.  Write small and neatly.  Follow the shape of your hand as you write.  You must write a minimum of five memories on your hand.  Use METAPHOR and SIMILES as you write (look at the binder glossary or  Literary_Devices_slideshow)

Friday

In the NOTES section of your binder:

Research Writer Sandra Cisneros and write at least one page of about her.  Find one of her poems and read it:

  • Who is she?
  • What books has she written?
  • What does she write about?
  • What are some of the prizes she has won?
  • Describe one of the poems that she has written
  • What is her book, “The House on Mango street about?”

When you are finished researching this author, begin your homework for tonight:

  • In the WRITING section, answer this question in detail.  Write between 1-2 paragraphs:

What is the personal significance of your given name (first, middle and last)?  Does your name mean different things to you, your family, and your friends?  What are your nicknames?  What do your nicknames mean to you and those who call you those names?
